to summarize... i was never very good at this. i go on and on and on...and on and on and on...

well lucky for you i have no time to go on.

hmm i tried to finish this at work and the same problem occurred that i had in the summer. customers and time. it takes time to read directions and reread directions and listen/read tutorials, and time to play/explore a site, and time to blog about it.

anyway, besides the time factor i enjoyed the 23 things. i am happy to have been introduced to all these useful applications, programs and websites.

the 23 things were lots of fun and i am going to go and play on the sites later but for now i think i a just going to check my email and my facebook, and myspace page. i have not checked them since last Tuesday. well i might use some other sites like flickr when i get a digital camera, oh wait i have one. gotta read the directions.

i am very excited about our library systems in MD adopting these web2.0 tools. i think i am most looking forward to tagging and podcasts on library websites. oh and worldcat.. i so want that program on our site!

i do not like being read to. i am a fast reader and i really, truly hate it.
poetry i can deal with; i like the rhythm of it when spoken aloud.
hmm i only like nonfiction audio books. they are okay. they are kinda like sermons or lectures so i can learn and i can deal with them.

or maybe it is because i don't like using the computer for a thing like that. i mean i might have music playing while i am doing other things on the net but a book? i mean i am not going to write a paper or do my emails or edit my facebook while listening to a book. that requires me doing mindless things like cleaning or laundry or cellphone games or my hair and unless i am dragging my computer around with me, i don't see that happening.
oh i guess i could download it to an mp3 player...oh wait. i have dial up and it takes waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy to long. so yeah i am probably not using this .

well i have been getting videos sent to me via email from friends for awhile now. i joined youtube sometime this year so i could save my favorites and share some.
also thanks to my email i found out that there are other sites like you tube. i have not joined them yet but i am sure i will. not all the funniest or most entertaining videos are found on youtube, yet that is the only one the media talks about. i don't like monopolies or things that are too popular. i don't know why; i just don't trust popularity.

i don't really see how this would benefit library websites unless they were videos of library programs. i think podcasts would be more useful for libraries. videos would just be entertaining i guess. maybe like online advertising on a library's website.

okay i liked, no loved the idea and was all ready to sign up after viewing the page but then i clicked on FAQ and i did not like the fact you had to install it on your browser. this means you cannot access it like other services without first installing it. kinda sucky for folks like myself who have dial up and can only install so much without making your computer waaaaaaay too slow. sigh. oh well maybe when i get a computer with more memory or whatever.

i guess you can use this in libraries for regular school projects or not then kids would not learn how to do research. well you could use it in the lib for questions the librarians get asked all the time by patrons about certain topics like genealogy, real estate, gardening, home improvement, etc.

okay. i learned about wikis before staff day and before the 23 things.
Annie first showed me one. she was looking at recipes from a personal chef on a wiki and she kinda explained it to me.
then sometime later i was looking up things on wikipedia and i complained about something and Raisa was kind enough to tell me that maybe the info was wrong since it was all user generated. i was shocked. i had been using wikipidea for a while and never knew.
then Jill our bestesest head children's librarian showed me her wiki (i have completely forgotten why..maybe her pilot training)and i loved it. i think i might have signed up for one... no i did not; i just made a note and promised myself to make one one day.

the OCLC Next Space Newsletter –
Web 2.0: Where will the next generation of the web it take libraries? well this was like an introductory news brief about learning 2.0. so it is stuff i already knew thanks to staff day and this exercise. i want to know what oclc stands for. i clicked around but i did not find the answer. weird.

Rick Anderson's article "Away from the icebergs" better explains what libraries will need to do in order to keep current using web 2.0. i loved the user education that he promotes.

Micheal Stephen's article "Into a new world of librarianship" was like a how to guide to use web 2.0 for librarians. great info, but it bored me a little since i was not expecting a manual. well i think the this librarian phrase annoyed me. or maybe the fact i had to read most of it twice because the terms were not that familiar to me. he wrote i think from a techie's point of view. but it seems that i know this librarian. i think she works in St. Mary's, but there is more than one. lucky us!

Chip Nigles wrote "To more powerful ways to cooperate." this was about how OCLC (what is it?) is integrating web 2.0 into its system. he got almost all the ideas form this article he kept citing by Tim O’Reilly "What is Web 2.0: Design Patterns and Business Models for the Next Generation of Software.” i was going to read it but the word software let me know i'd be lost and bored with the content.

John Riemer wrote "To better bibliographic services". okay all the things he suggest and that i understood i want our SMRLA to adopt. well shoot, all libraries. it is very cool and fun and user friendly things he suggested. being a regular and eager patron of libraries since i was old enough to read, i can say this with some authority. so SMRLA when are we doing this cool stuff ?

Dr. Wendy Schultz's 's article "To a temporary place in time..." she lost me somewhere in library 2.0. she was too bright for me. or maybe it is because i am not good at visualizing things in the future.

okay it is again things that i have learned already. the debate was new to me and it did not seem like much of a debate really

Library 2.0 Discussions (list of great references from Wikipedia) these i did not read. the names of the authors of some of the articles were familiar so i guess i must have come across them in the 23 things or from staff training day.

a question was asked:
Library 2.0 - It's many things to many people. What does it mean to you?

to me it means libraries are like a social networking bookstore reference research place. libraries i think using all the tool of web 2.o and business 2.o can be so much more than just a place/website to do research, find media entertainment (books, games, movies, magazines), and hold community meetings. it can be all those things and more. we are more consumer driven than previously. before libraries were more about research and entertainment in the form of fiction . now with web 2.o we are becoming all these things and more. i don't know if i am expressing it right but the library i have read about uses tags that patrons help create, it has the capability to connect students with researchers from across the globe yet it still is a center for the community. i cannot wait for our library to fully become integrated with web 2.0.

shoot i could not watch the video...sigh.
hmm Jen could have told us that we needed to go to advanced search to do all these different searches she wants us to do. no, that would have been too easy. instead i just wasted 15 minutes trying to find out how i could do the discovery exercise#1. anyway...

so first advanced search - keyword search of exact phrase learning 2.0 searching in all blogs
i got 510 results in posts, 348 in blogs, 20 in videos, and over 140 in photos. i saw lots of library posts in that section. looking for us maybe if i typed i Maryland i'd find us quicker. so i added Maryland in the search under at least one of the words. yup found us and all our fellow learners in MD. cool.

next advanced search- typed it in tag search and the results
660 posts tagged learning 2.0, 749blogs, 20 videos (looks like the same ones), and over 140 photos (these look familiar as well)

and the last advanced search is in the blog directory
743 blogs (they look similar to the ones in the tag search)

and last advanced search is URL search (Jen did not ask us to do this one)
hmm it says 660 posts tagged, just like in the tag search, 750 blogs which look like the same ones in the tag and blog directory search, apparently there are only 20 videos on learning 2.0, and the over 140 photos look the same as all the others in the searches.

okay the second discovery exercise is found on the popular technocrati page
okay canned the 100 favorited blogs and they look boring to me= techie, money, or political. with a smattering of entertaining blogs about noting really but the regular everyday person who is blogging. you would think since i like to sign up for stuff and love certain sci-fi shows and books hat i would be a techie geek as well, but nope. i did not find more than 3 blogs who judging by their summaries i'd actually click on to read. one was about self help with money, the other two were personal about my life type blogs whose poster sounded interesting.

the 100 top blogs look kinda like the the favorited blogs...at least the names sound awfully familiar to me, not the same order but still i think they are mostly the same ones. the bottom 10 were new to me, still same old stuff.

the top searches i recognized some things but these probably change more frequently than the other popular items.

okay i claimed my blog and now i want to tag them but i did not understand the directions at all. it was all Greek or technocrati to me.

so i can not see on this page where i am creating this post a place to tag. and what is an enclosure link? i am going to add one and see. MMIE Type.? no idea just will type in the name of the site. uh oh, no spaces allowed in MMIE. hmm what is it? well i saw no link on the blog since i posted it . oh well. it shall remain a mystery.

hmm this is frustrating. i opened this page http://www.beelerspace.com/index.php?p=890 and i was reading then i clicked on a link in it and now i cannot read the page. it says my server will not allow it or something. that is a shame. it was easy to read and follow. okay i tired to open it on a different computer and did not click on any of the links like i did last time and i got to read the whole page. very useful. when i have time i shall go back and follow its instructions to the tee.

well i went to the other library's delicious account http://del.icio.us/PLCMCL2/ and clicked on some of the things that were there. it was nice to see that i am familiar with the technology, like tags and tag clouds, tag links. i have used them all just did not know the names of what i was using.

hmm i clicked on a couple of the things listed. i guess those are the bookmarks. then i clicked on the pink thing saying how many folks saved that site. that showed me a tag cloud and a listed of folks who saved it. i am looking for the comments. i am pretty sure the words besides the users' names are the tags they used to save the site. hmm i see user notes. maybe that is it. i think so sounds like comments to me.

this would be a tremendous help in research assistance. you just type in keywords/tags and you could find all sorts of resources depending on what site you were on. the all consuming site http://allconsuming.net/ probably would be good because it lists all sorts of media not just books or websites. i might get me an account there. who am i kidding i shall probably sign up for everything and use it whenever i recall i signed up for it.

i love the fact that you can access your bookmarks from anywhere although you can do that with yahoo and other web based email that gives you a page as well soooooo that is not too thrilling or new.

the being able to find things of interest quickly is what i like the best. and i would love for every library to have a tagging system . that would be one rss feed i would actually look at and check regularly.

okay i am going going to go sign up for everything and move on to thing number 14.

okay i made a rollyo search roll. i tried searching but it didn't quite work. plus all the sponsored sites in between made it difficult to tell if the search results actually came form the sites i found. oh well. i don't see much of a use for this.

OMG! the time is almost up! wow, it has been so long since i have done anything. i need to recap.

Week 1: Introduction ( official start of week June 4th)
1. Read this blog & find out about the program.
i did that after i realized i had not fully read the all the instructions and i was not registered. i got registered and saw my name on the blog list of smrla participants and i was hopeful that i could do this. it seemed really easy. just register and do some little activity. boy was i wrong.

okay i never did get Rochelle or Raisa to show me how to do the mashup. i really want a library trading card though. i tried making one on my won. i spent an hour trying to get make it and then another hour trying to upload to my blog. as you can see (or not see as the case may be) i failed. I'll get back to this one after i finish the other things. and i did the color pickr. i didn't really explore the other links. i moved on to other things.

I explored MERLIN and discovered i had been to this sight before. when i was trained at SMRla i recall going to SMRLa's web page many times in the months following my training ang exploring their site and i discovered MERLIn. i singed up for MERLIn and promised it that one day I'd be back. i went back thanks to 23 things but yet again i had to promise I'd be back. i still browse it occasionally at work when the circ desk is slow.

i did sign up for the library related blogs and news feeds that were suggested, but i have not read any of my rss feeds. on live journal i occasionally go there and read some funny library blogs. nothing that would change the industry really just sharing about working at the library.

Week 5: Play Week
10. Play around with an online image generator.
oh yeah i definitely did that. i saw it on other folk's blog's and i asked rochelle how to do it s i could have a cool blog as well. this was when i discovered folks were jumping around and not doing the things in order. i can understand that. i took my meez off of my log because i made more than one and one i am still working on so she is only half dressed. well i could not figure out how to put the one that is complete and saved on my meez page on my blog. i t kept showing the one i was still working on so i just took it off. i love the online generators. i could spend hours, and hours and hours and hours..well you get the picture.

this was the second thing i did after i registered my blog. even before i listened to the 71/2 habit video. i recalled hearing about it at staff training day and i was excited. i love it. i also have signed up for shlefari. actually i am in just about every popular social networking site that is out here that like ringo, flixster, mychurch, bebo, you tube, myspace and facebook. funny, i rarely have time to check my email and i have dial-up at home so you probably have guessed that my pages are rarely updated. but i have an account.
